Remembering the Holocaust on Valley PBS Passport
FRONTLINE
The Last Survivors
As young children, they lived through the Holocaust. Now, some of the last remaining survivors recount their memories and the lingering trauma. FRONTLINE offers a haunting look at how disturbing childhood experiences and unimaginable loss have impacted their daily lives and relationships – from survivor’s guilt, to crises of faith and second-generation trauma.
PEOPLE FORGET, NEW HAVEN REMEMBERS
People Forget, New Haven Remembers
World War II ended in 1945, but memorials to Holocaust victims didn't exist in U.S. communities until three decades later. Among the first to be established on public land was Connecticut’s New Haven Holocaust Memorial, planned and built by the city and its residents. Explore the memorial’s evolution and aftermath, and meet four Holocaust survivors who worked to make the memorial a reality.
THE WINDERMERE CHILDREN
The Windermere Children
Child survivors of the Holocaust are brought to an estate near England’s Lake Windermere to recuperate with the help of volunteer therapists. Without their families, they find kinship in each other and form bonds that give them hope for the future.
HARBOR FROM THE HOLOCAUST
Harbor from the Holocaust
Harbor from the Holocaust is the story of nearly 20,000 Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi-occupied Europe during World War II, to the Chinese port city of Shanghai. Explore the extraordinary relationship of these Jews and their adopted city of Shanghai, even through the bitter years of Japanese occupation 1937-1945 and the Chinese civil war that followed.
WE'LL MEET AGAIN
Surviving the Holocaust
Join Ann Curry as Holocaust survivors search for those who gave them hope in the darkest days. One wants to find the friend he left behind when he didn’t move to Israel; the other hopes an old photo will reunite him with the girl who was his first friend.
